What are the features of KnowHow?

  • Structural storage and retrieval of relevant information

KnowHow enables you to store any information you wish to remember about your favourite programs or websites in such a way that you can never forget or need to search for that information again.
  • Context-sensitive linking of information

You use KnowHow to link information you wish to remember directly to the active screen, i.e. the program or website you are working in at a specific moment in time.
  • Icon colouring signals presence/absence of information

If you wish to store specific information, you click the orange question mark in the task bar. This will open the KnowHow input screen in which you can type or copy the information you wish to remember here.
If you have linked specific information to a specific program or website, you will see a green exclamation mark in your task bar.
  • Formatting options

There are various options available for formatting the texts you type or copy in KnowHow.
  • Generic versus Specific information

When used in combination with some applications (e.g. Office) KnowHow will feature two tabs in which you can store information. A General tab in which you can store information that should always be available when the application is opened, and a Specific tab in which you store information which is only relevant to the specific document or file that you have opened at a specific moment in time.
  • Hyperlinks (internet links) to web pages and files

As an alternative for Favorites you can store addresses of webpages in KnowHow. These can be copied into the text you enter in KnowHow or they can be hidden underneath a word or sentence, just like you find on websites.
  • Sharing your information

You can share the information you store in KnowHow. You do this by placing the KnowHow database on a shared file server. You can then open this database from all pc’s on which you run KnowHow.
  • Distribute read-only information

You can distribute the information you store in KnowHow and share this info with different other users in such a way that this info can only be viewed, and not changed. In this case only users that hold the required password have entrance to the KnowHow database to change its contents.
  • Create new database

You can create one or more new databases that you can fill with any desired content. Next, you can share this information and if required, distribute it read-only.
  • Open databases

By default KnowHow uses a database called MyKnowHow.akh. If required you can open another database and view the information it contains. Once you have opened another database, KnowHow will always link to that database when the program is started.
